Dr Hirdaynath Kunzru
Dr Hirdaynath was born in 1886. He was educated at Agra and Allahabad. He went to England and took B.A. and B.Sc. degrees, with specialization in Political Science.
Dr Hirdaynath was married in 1908. Tragedy struck him when he was only 25. His wife expired in childbirth in 1911 and unfortunately the child also died after six months. He was greatly upset and did not marry again. Instead he decided to dedicate his life to social and political work. From 1916, he dedicated his life to the service of mankind.
He joined the Servants of India Society which was founded by Gokhale and rose to be its President. He joined the All India Sewa Samiti and later on became its President. He founded the Boy Scouts Society in order to mould school going children into service of society. He ultimately rose to become the Chief Scout.
Dr Kunzru was at first attracted to the Congress, but later withdrew from it. He was Member of the UP Assembly and later the Upper House of Parliament for many years. He was also appointed President of the Indian Council of World Affairs.
He was a deeply religious person and a nishkam karmayogi. He lived up to the age of 92 and passed away in 1978.
